Miss Ellie DaintyToes, principal dancer for the Meowsborough Ballet Company, fell cruelly onto the stage during yesterday evening’s performance of the Nutcracker.
To everyone’s shock and horror, the star did not right on her four paws. She fell awkwardly onto one paw and collapsed onto her flank. Dancers both on- and off- stage rushed to her side. The rehearsal director and orchestral conductor soon followed. The Company quickly realized that she had suffered serious injuries upon landing, so 9-mew-mew was called. After assessing DaintyToes’ condition, EMTs zoomied her to the hospital, where doctors discovered that she had ruptured her Achilles tendon and torn her extensor muscles.
In her hospital bed, DaintyToes covered her face with her good paw and sobbed: “I am pawsitively mortified! This graceless fall will surely end my dancing career.”
The official spokeskitty for the ballet company, however, assured correspondents at Meowsborough Weekly that DaintyToes’ contract would not been terminated – even though she would need to recuperate for the rest of the Company’s 2025/2026 season. “Despite this unfortunate event, Miss Ellie DaintyToes remains the Company’s star dancer. We wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to her stage return,” the spokeskitty shared.
How this misfortune happened has been fiercely debated, but esteemed kitties in the box seats believe that Mister Eric SleekCoat’s dewclaws snagged Miss Ellie DaintyToes’ taffeta at the tail end of a glissade immediately preceding a grand jeté lift. Unaware of the danger, the prima ballerina leapt, then – caught off-guard – fell on her side.
As his whiskers twitched, SleekCoat chastised attendees who shamed the dancers for this accident. “What matters meow is Miss Ellie’s well-being and rehabilitation,” he said, holding DaintyToes’ uninjured paw. But DaintyToes closed her eyes and shook her head.
